... resource. Seeing lots of folks utilizing their bikes for bikepacking has piqued my interest in trying this out. Any suggestions for newb's to bikepacking? I'm in Central TX and it's getting to be the time of year to be outside under the stars.

Don't you live in S.A.?  I would say do an overnighter at Government Canyon.  I would think that might be fun.  Hell, I might come down and join you for it.  I've never ridden there but I hear it's pretty good.

You will most likely carry way too much gear on the first few trips. The way I figure what I need to carry is like this. First I plan for a month long trip at about 30 miles a day. During the trip whatever gear I haven't used once during that month I don't take on the second trip. The second trip I plan for a week at about 50 miles a day.
During this trip whatever I haven't used once that week I don't take on the thrid trip.
The third trip I plan for a weekend at about 50 to 100 miles a day. Whatever gear I didn't use once I don't take on any more trips. This leaves the basic I'll surely use. From there I find the lightest gear possible for my budget. IE: tin cans instead of heavier pots and pans even using a "hobo stove" made of tin can(s) instead of propane stoves.

You're not supposed to camp at BCGB or City Park or anywhere else I've camped.  Doesn't mean you can't.  Ride til you get tired, walk off the trail a few feet and set up camp.  Simple as that.  I've camped at City Park a couple times now and have been probably 10 feet off trail and well concealed and got to listen/watch as people road by.  Pretty fun stuff.  You're right, this weather is finally starting to come around where it would be nice to camp.

How about a meet in Waco, as in Travis you ride from austin, and i will ride from dallas.  Ride Cameron, camp, then head back out.  Whatcha think?

It's not that bad, you just have to know where to stay.  But if that is not your fancy you can camp legally just down the road at lake waco.
