Anyone have any experience carrying their computer in a front bag or something else?  I'd like to not carry a backpack. This would be for lots of commuting and an occasional longer trip. I was looking at the Relevate or BedRock Bags front bags with the front pocket but not sure if my 11" Air would fit into one of the pockets.

Any experience out there?

Definitely won't fit in a Bedrock bag.

A Macbook Air is not a practical choice for bikepacking. That is why I use an iPad Mini.

I've taken mine just in a backpack, which is useful when you go into town.

If I haul a laptop again, I may opt in getting an el cheapo chromebook, and have a little piece of mind of not hauling my pricey mac. You can get them for like $50 used.

Sea to Summit makes a nice laptop sleeve for a little padding:

wrap that in a drybag, and you're good for weatherproofing.

But, yeah - I feel it more secure in my pack, that's on my back in a crash situation.

Joel I can tell you your Air will not fit in a Revelate front pocket either. My iPad mini barely fits.

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts! I'll keep looking and searching for a good way where I don't have to carry my backpack. Right now I'm using my older Rivendell Baggins Adam bag with my MacBook in a padded sleeve and it works well, but pretty heavy.
