I've seen a lot of super compressed ultra lightweight sleeping bags but I just don't think I'll feel comfortable as a mummy.  I know mummy is quite popular but what is the general opinion on packing a regular sleeping bag on a bike?  Could I stuff a Coleman green valley in a pannier or do you think I'm just going to be miserable on the road?

Take it. Pack it. Carry it. Use it.

Adjust if needed.

Use what you have and change things that don't work. Don't get hung up on anyone's particular setup or gear.

If you can fit it on the bike and it works for what you want to do.... Go for it.

If you want a light option without feeling claustrophobic at night, look into sleeping quilts - its just a fancy blanket with a foot pocket.

I just got a cheap down mummy bag from Walmart. There is NO way it would make it to its advertised 32 degrees, but it makes a lovely sleeping quilt with foot pocket and packs down soooo small.  My older bag was just too bulky for most use, but I'd find a way if it was going to be cold.

If you have a few bucks, golite makes a super sweet 30 degree down quilt that weighs less than 2 lbs, should keep you warm, and is nice and spacious. It's also like $300 so it's not cheap, but it is sweet.
