I'm buying a new Specialized Tri-Cros sport 2010 model for general riding and maybe some longer touring routes, can anyone suggest good tried and tested paniers and racks that would fit? any help will be most usefull.

Ortlieb are great, waterproof and rugged.  If you're not looking for waterproof, Arkel is one of best brands for Panniers.  Most here don't use panniers, instead frame bags, handlebar bags and saddlebags by Epic Designs and Carousel Design Works or custom jobs because they allow for better bike maneuverability and weigh a lot less than Racks and Panniers.

Here's my Tricross setup for an overnight tour down the pacific coast from Santa Barbara to Irvine.

It's a tough question which I know has been addressed a couple of times at bikeforums.net - try searching there. The back is fine, any rack that is good for any other bike will be fine. It's the front that's the problem, the fork is a slightly weird shape, ruling out a few common options.

Fwiw, Topeak super tourist dx has worked well for me in the past (especially with topeak rack bag), but I pretty much go rackless these days. Even managed to squeeze the christmas presents into the frame bag today Smiley
