Wondering if anyone out there has used Shimano Ice Tech rotors with Avid Elixir calipers?
Yes, I'm wanting to do something that neither manufacturer would recommend, but I have two bike, four sets of wheels and can't yet afford to migrate everything to my favorite brake setup [XT IceTech].
I really like the brakes on my Ibis Mojo, which currently has relatively new Shimano XT brakes [Ice Tech pads and rotors]. This setup is simply awesome. However, this bike previously had Avid Elixir 5s with a mix of rotors, Formula, Avid, Alligator, etc. When I did the CTR a couple years back on this bike, my brakes got so hot on the big descents, like coming off of Ten Mile range and Stoney Pass, that I had to actually stop a few times and let the brakes cool. The rotors didn't warp, but they definitely became discolored.
For my next CTR run, I'll be on a different bike [Ti 29er], which has Elixir 9 calipers. The HS1 rotors seem to work very well, but I want to try the Shimano IceTech rotors, since they seem to run much cooler than the Avids and hopefully not overheat as easily.

PS - FYI, I've used weight-weenie rotors with Shimano XT brakes/IceTech pads and the noise drove me crazy. My experience seems to suggest that Shimano's newer brakes don't like minimalist rotors like Windcutters or open pattern models from Formula, etc.
