I finally discovered the perfect (for me) bike packing shoe and now Pearl Izumi have decided in all their marketing wisdom to focus on road and triathlon shoes.

My question is, what shoe is similar to the Pearl Izumi enduro alp x? Alternatively, where could I lay my hands on three pairs? Some shop somewhere has to have some they cant sell.

According to PI's own website, and the pair I bought last week, they still make the Enduro Alp-X and several good bikepacking shoes, so no worries!

Thanks Dave. Maybe I should be doing more (thorough) Internet searches. The LBS's in my area are all telling me they've ('PI') stopped making mtn bike shoes but when I look on the site as suggested, there they are. I'm happy to know I can still get them but a little saddened that the bike stores around me are as useless as tits on a fish.

I see a variety on EBay, mostly at around $110.  Some say type 3, some type 4, and others no type.  Don't know the difference.  There's a pair for $39, but not my size.

The pair I recently bought is the PI X-Alp Enduro IV.  They're pretty great so far--extremely comfortable.  I tried lots of pairs and, for bikepacking, I like either these or the Giro Terraduro.  However, the Giro's are very expensive and less comfortable than the PI's.

--I am used to Shimano mtb shoes, in which I wear size 46.  I also wear size 46 street shoes.  I tried both 46 and 47 in the PI's and the 47 was noticeably more comfortable.  Since mtb shoes uses ratchets and are easy to adjust, you may as well size up to give yourself room for thick socks, foot swelling, etc.
