So I just started a new bike company with Joe Murray and a friend of ours named Stu Henderson here in Flagstaff called Sendero Cycles.  I wanted to show of some photos of the touring bike Joe is making for me right now.  It will fit Surly Endomorph tires or 29"er wheels and tires and hold four 40oz. Kleen Kanteens on the frame via custom stainless bottle cages... looking forward to some long trips on this baby!

Sweet, John.  Looks like it'll be quite the hauler.  What's the frame material?

I'm thinking you'll probably want some seat stays, but maybe it's just me.   icon_biggrin

Got any idea for where that baby's maiden (touring) voyage will be?

100mm bottom bracket?

I'm toying with the idea of using my soon to be built up(when Phil Wood and White Ind. get their parts sent out)Pugsley as my main adventure bike. I'll have all the gear bags for it anyways, and it's got plenty mud clearance for the largest 29" tires. So far it's building up lighter than my Karate Monkey.

The only thing I'm not sure about is how I'll like the super wide BB.

I had a Pugsley for about a year before it was stolen and never had a problem with the wide BB.  I rode it fast and hard on all the trails here around Flagstaff and took it on several camping adventures.  Never really had enough traction for most of the snow riding here.  I think I'll use a 29'er rear wheel with WTB Stout tire this year..javascript:void(0);

No idea where the maiden voyage will be Scott.  Joe has been talking about a SE AZ tour for awhile and we may try to do that in March.

Questions for you:

1. What fork will you be running? 135mm wide hub?

2. Those cages, where will you be mounting them?

3. Is the frame builder actually building the cages?

Comment: I just did my first ride with the WTB Stout as a rear tire. It's huge. It's heavy. And it rocked for the leaves, frozen tundra, etc. I was riding today. I have another one I will be mounting on the front.

That's a cool project. I'll be curious to see the results of this.

1. I'm using a Surly Pugsly 100mm fork.  I don't see the need right now for a 135mm front so I am going for lighter weight.

2. we will mount two on the DT, one on ST, and one on underside DT by BB.

3. Joe Murray is building the bike, but we are having the cages custom made elsewhere.

Thanks!  I am pretty stoked as well.

BTW - been riding the Nakisi a lot and it is pretty darn great to ride.  It eats up single track.  ~jb

I didn't know they made a Pugsley fork in 100mm.

I just copied this from the Surly site:

"Our cro-moly Pugsley fork is a tapered straight blade unit, spaced at 135mm (between the dropouts) to accommodate a rear hub, and wide enough to allow a 4" tire to fit with ease."

Actually, I did find a reference for a 100mm Pugsley fork on AEbike.com and Speedgoat. However, they indicate the fork is unavailable and backordered, respectively.

Anyone know if the 100mm Pugsley fork is still available? Might make for a cool project for my Karate Monkey.

Doesn't Vicious Cycles make that fork? I  thought I saw somewhere that they were doing a fork for someonein the 100mm OD and big enough to fit an Endomorph.

Excellent John!
cool to see the work in progress.
I love the natural suspension design without the seat stays Wink

For the fork questions - If the Surly is unavailable give Greg a call at Speedway cycles in Anchorage.
He's got all sorts of Ti and steel custom made big clearance fat tire forks.

I have one on my non-sus corrected 29er.  Nice fork, tons of clearance and lowrider mounts mid-blade to boot.  The backorder is probably just a temporaray thing, I got mine through Universal Cycles last fall...

Well here it is... The Phogsley!  Just needs a few tweaks and some decals and ready for action!  I'll post more pics on our website www.senderocycles.com once I remember my camera. ~jb
