SPD Shoes for hiking / packrafting?

Does anyone know of good SPD shoes for hiking and packrafting as well as cycling?

I guess I am looking for a shoe that has a good sole for walking, and is quick draining for packrafting. I think I could walk ok in most MTB cycling shoes, but a lot of them are so padded out with foam, and once wet, take days to dry, even at home.

So little padding / non water absorbent, rather than waterproof. Any ideas?

I have been wearing my Keen commuter sandals more and more.  They are great for river crossings.  I haven't walked any great distance in them but I am sure they would be more comfortable than any of my cycling shoes.

Check out the Pearl Izumi X-Alp series.  Good, comfy shoes with cleat attachemnts.  Depending on the model, the top is very breathable, with a normal-type midsole for comfortable walking and such.  Good, grippy tread would be good for possible hiking situations.  For me, they're the best option for a multi-purpose use shoe: stiff enough for biking, comfortable for walking around, and a thin, breathable type upper which should drain fairly well when wet.

I have looked at the X-Alp before, but can't figure out which ones are good - http://www.pearlizumi.com/publish/content/pi_2010/us/en/index/products/men/ride/footwear/x-alp_footwear.html - some of them seem to be more or less trainers with a SPD sole, tlooks like thay still have loads of padding to soak up water. What version do you have?

I have seen the Keen commuter sandals before as well. Look good foe drainage, but maybe a bit too open?

I have the X-Alp Seek.  In my opinion, they're good enough.  They're not exactly like the dedicated mtb shoes, but for me that's a good thing.  Too many of the dedicated shoes are too narrow.  But the soles are plenty stiff enough for proper riding, but not too stiff that you can't walk around in them.  And the upper gives support.  The upper does have the padding around the ankle area and such, but for the parts around the rest of the foot seems to be thin enough to provide good drainage.  I'm not 100% sure though.  Haven't put much thought towards that.  If you can, check them out at a store and see how you think the drainage will work.  In my opinion it's a very good compromise to have a little bit of everything.

REI has the Shimano MT33L [http://www.rei.com/product/811215/shimano-mt33l-bike-shoes-mens] on sale thru Memorial Day for $60. Nice lug sole, but smooth enough to use with toe clips, and mostly mesh/synthetic construction that should dry fast. This lace-up shoe should accommodate feet swelling better than a strapped and buckled shoe. It seems to have more stitching, less glued seams, than X-Alp that REI also has [$100].
