I really wish they just added Bluetooth to the current Spot. While it's good that 911 can be activated w/o a smartphone, it's annoying that tracking and OK messages can't be activated directly from the device. If I understand correctly, the phone can be turned off once tracking is activated, but that the initial activation process requires a phone--and needs to be repeated every 24 hours. I don't want to dig out and turn on my phone every time I need to send a simple "OK" message. Further, my wife doesn't have a smartphone, and she takes my Spot when she goes for long rides--and she uses the OK messages and tracking so that we can figure out which one of us will pick up our son from school. I really like the idea of the Spot Connect, but why they didn't leave the Spot II buttons on it is beyond me.
End of useless rant...

taking mine back and getting the spot 2 if'n spot will transfer my new service. didn't like the phone activated feature like i thought i would, it's more of a pain than i want to deal with out on the trail. i think it's more for someone wanting the custom text msg feature which i did not sign up for due to added cost.

Yeah, I'm sticking my Spot II for now as well. Seems like Spot is making us choose between convenience and new feature.
