For those who have been wondering about this, I received the following email from Spot this morning.
Dear Scott Sundby,

We are unable to transfer SPOT accounts on our end.
The only way to take advantage of the service that has already been paid for, is to obtain the login information of the
www.findmespot.com account from the person you are purchasing the unit from.
Once you log in, you can modify the customer and billing information to reflect your own.
