Input needed ! BIKE... I'm considering buying a 2013 Salsa Fargo 2 from Universal Cycles. They are currently marked down to $1441.00. I want to ride the Divide Trail and other similar trails and some single track. I'm 5'10" and in a road frame always ride a 55cm. I'm thinking a med size will work. Salsa s fit recommendation also says med for me. Will the stock bike setup, wheels for example hold up?
GEAR
For the divide I'm thinking of a rear rack with Ortlieb front roller classic panniers with revelate designs stuff mixed in. I already own a Viscatcha & sweet roll although not sure if the sweet roll will work with the woodchippers. May put a front rack on and use a medium stuff sack. Would appreciate any input/ advice or experience with this.
Thanks, Dave

I am 5'7" tall and ride a small. Medium sounds right. I use a Revelate sling and dry bag. I run Midge bars. It could be a little awkward to load a Sweetroll because of the drops getting in the way. I have done the Divide on my Fargo. For me it is the perfect setup.

Thanks very much..your input helps a bunch. Have you ever used a rear rack and panniers on it?

I did the Divide ride with full panniers. Mistake. But it was my first trip and I learned a lot . Last winter my wife and rode 10 weeks in NZ. I had 2 small panniers, my sling gas tank and frame bag. Better. Last summer I rode 2weeks on the divide from Banff south with just bike packing gear. Best yet. Go as light as you think you can then get rid of more stuff. Light is good!

Dave, I'm the same height as you and I ride a 2013 Fargo size medium. Good fit for me.

I don't know what the question is - but the answer is: Lubrication!

Ok great. That makes me feel more confident buying a bike online without being able to ride it. Really appreciate the input! Thanks.

Also '5"10+ and ride 56cm top tube road bikes and have a med Fargo. Fits me just right with a 110mm stem. My son who is '5"8 also has a med Fargo but uses a 90mm stem.

Very good. I was thinking I may have to switch out the stem to get a better fit..which is the case quite a bit with me and bikes. It looks as though Salsa's fit guide is fairly accurate though based on your info. You both are in or close to the range of height for a med frame according to them. Thanks!
