Tour Divide - NM Portion
«

How much of the last two sections of the GDRMTB (New Mexico) is technical single track? I'm planning to do all or part of the NM portion (my home state) this summer to get my feet wet w/ the idea of attempting the Tour Divide a year or two down the road. What I'm really asking is - can this be done on a Surly Big Dummy? I believe the Riding the Spine guys did it but would like to get thoughts/suggestions from those here who've done it.
Thanks!

zero tech singletrack. It could be done on a dummy though it wouldn't be my first choice.

It could be done from what I have seen of the NM route. And sort of sounds like fun in a fixed gear sort of way. Ha, and you could really go fully self supported with that bike. If you ride up between Abiquiu and Cuba on a cargo bike please take some bike pictures and post them up
edit--opps, I see you just were talking about the last two sections, still pics would be cool, Surly also would like them

I definitely would not be in race mode w/ the Dummy. My other option would be much lighter - my single speed Karate Monkey w/ either epic or carousel bags. By the last two sections, I mean the entire NM portion - the last two maps.
Thanks for the replies.

The KM would be more fun to me but you certainly could make due with the dummy in touring mode.
