Hey All,

Long time reader, first time posting. Big fan of the site.

I'm guessing a few of you have done the CTR in August or at least ridden pieces of it around that time. What kind of temperatures should someone expect? Night vs. day, 13k ft vs 7k ft?

The Colorado Trail website says to be ready for anything between 30 and 80 degrees; blog photos show riders in long sleeves and leg warmers. I'm prepping for a trip and trying to figure out layers and a sleeping bag.

Thanks.

Hi Ann,

The Colorado Trail website is pretty accurate, from my experience. I used a 40 degree bag and a light down jacket--and I was always toasty. In the daytime, I rode mostly in shorts and a short-sleeve jersey, but at night I added a layer of pile. When it was raining, I wore rain pants and a rain jacket.

I brought leg warmers and long underwear--but I never used the leg warmers. I slept in the long underwear, and then wore them for a bit when I got rolling on chilly mornings.

I posted my CTR gear list a few days ago at tobygadd.blogspot.com. I didn't list brands, but feel free to ping me if you want more information.
