I'm still using my Gerber cool tool....after giving a few days thought I think it's pretty close to perfect. That mini cresent is handy for all kinds of stuff.

I was bought one nearly 20 years ago - early enough NOT to have the 8/10mm allen adapters - and I still carry it on every ride. It certainly works well enough for trailside repairs, and has got me out of a tricky situation several times.

what do you use the gerber or similar multitool for? I am debating bringing one but can't really think of what I would use it for.

I think ditching the multi tool has potential, but like she said, what about the chain tool?  For a lite multi tool, the lezyne SV10 looks interesting, but I'm not sure about an aluminum chain tool.   http://www.lezyne.com/products/multi-tools/sv10.html.  Anybody used one?

Isn't anyone bikepacking a without front and rear panniers a weight weenie?
