A few months ago I exported some nice images from TopoFusion for a brevet series I'm running. This is the old route:

Tonight I'm getting some odd behavior with what I thought were the same old settings used to get the nice, tight graphics:
(note that previous I was using the 'texture detail' slider @ 4... now that cripples my computer (a mobile workstation capable of doing 3d design quite nicely)

I've pushed and pulled sliders and I can't get anything remotely close to my original output.

Any help?

That's an interesting corrupted map you are getting.  First I'd try moving the first slider closer to "low".  That should speed things up significantly.

Does the map look like that (garbled) regardless of the 'texture detail' setting?  Note that the texture detail setting goes into affect immediately, while the model detail takes a reconstruction of the model (r key works I believe), or go into and out of 3D mode.  Inconsistent I know and now realize!

Next step is to look in your TF diagnostic file for any DirectX errors.  There should be a shortcut to it in your TF start menu.  Either post the contents here or email me the file (smorris@topofusion.com) and I'll take a look.

Thanks Scott.
The map looks OK with the texture setting to 2 or less. But the old setting was easily done @ 4, and produced the first image I posted.

I'll dig into it and look for the errors on Monday.

Funny, but even the 'downloading' maps black and white text tiles get sliced and diced and look that way, when the slider goes to 2.5 and up.

I really like the first image - high quality, lots of detail in the map. I've been linking to these and the exported elevation information... people can download the larger file and get a sense of the route.

Thanks, I'll be in touch.

Scott -

On a hunch I tinkered with my nVidia card settings, as I recently downloaded some updated drivers for my 3d CAD programs... I set the defaults to allow the 3d application to control the card settings... this seems to have corrected the problem...

Thanks for the update, Mike.  Looking at the drivers is a good idea since it used to be working fine.  Interesting about a setting for allowing the application to control card settings.  TF isn't doing anything too esoteric with any card settings, but it is trying to grab a very large texture!

Scott - I'll switch it back and send you the error report. My nVidia drivers were set for 'quality' - with the exception of 2 programs that use custom settings. When I updated these settings I'm guessing is when things went screwy - but - I've since updated TF from 3.9xx something to the 4. Not sure if that change affected it as well. Regardless - seems I have a solution. The little that I do use the program - I really like it..
