Cost of touring-how much should I be saving

Hello to all- so how much is the real cost of touring? I am selling my jeep, and getting away from the stress of the routine job. I bikepacked England but the loss of 40cents on the dollar cuts the trip short. How do others do year trips and at what cost?

Use your experience from England. What mistakes did you make? did you keep a ledger? Where can you cut costs? You probably shouldn't make multiple posts on the same topic btw. I said in your other post-- $300 food + health ins. is about as low as I can see going in a Western country. $10 a day. Others have done less. PB+J sandwiches all day brother.

I guess it comes down to deciding to give up comforts in pursuit of better lifestyle. Learning creative ways to survive on the road is part of the trip, but reading the blogs from experienced cyclists is very comforting. Always the fear of "what if something goes wrong" gets in the way of the experiences of a lifetime. Thanx for your insights on my England trip..my only fear over there was the weather, and terrible food! If things went bad, there was always the trains, etc. fairly close by to get around. Here in the USA , there is so much distance with no public transportation that it could be awhile before you get help. Thanx again!

I'm glad you're going for it man. Travelingtwo has an AWESOME podcast that everyone should listen to. Terrific interviews, and they're some of the most experienced folks out there. The secret in the back pocket of modern day adventurers is that there's almost always a way out.... If you're really worried you could get a beacon, and make sure your phone is tucked away... always have someone you stay up with daily to let 'em know where you're at, leave them with your route and everything...
