SPOT rental

Hello All,
New to the forum and planning my first bikepacking trip. I was considering purchasing a SPOT 2 GPS for peace of mind, but not sure if I can justify the price. Has anyone rented one before? I found a place online that will rent them for 3 days-1 month.

Lower gear is a good company -- we (at Trackleaders) have worked with Dallas from LG before. I'd recommend the Gen3 units over the SPOT 2's, though. Much better ability to get tracking points out and more reliable. Surely he's renting Gen3 units, too?
Trackleaders rents units out too, but generally not on an individual basis -- more for events such as AZTR, Tour Divide, etc.
