Hello, I am completely new to bikepacking, trying to understand how to set up a gear for the first time. Question that bothers me a lot: how much can you see over the bags mounted in front of handlebar? Are you able to see a tire when sitting on the saddle, when stand up, whenever? Is it important to see the wheel?

Cheers

Hello Maksym:

I don’t carry large loads on the handlebars, but I rarely look at the front wheel while riding except if I think there’s leaking sealant.  In terms of maneuvering through rocks, ruts and other obstacles I look ahead concentrating on where I want the bike to go rather than where it is.  That seems to help my flow and keeps me upright.

Right. The age old rule is to look where you WANT to go, not where you don't want to go. So looking at your wheel will almost always result in you crashing. The biggest issue here though is handlebar lights. They can easily get so obstructed that they don't really shine any light on the ground at all. But if you're not riding at night, then this doesn't matter.
