Hi guys,
Riding in the TD this year it appeared that a lot of people in this scene were from CO so I thought that this would be a good place to get some advice.
I'm English and will be visiting Leavenworth KA in Mid-March 2013. We have a weekend free to do some biking and are willing to drive upto 800 miles to get to a good spot. We looked at staying in KA but the riding is similar to UK and we we want something different. So:
Where are the best places to ride in CO in March that will definitely be free of snow? Are these suggestions worth driving 12-15 hours for?!
Thanks!
Jon

Not sure about CO but I have heard good things about http://www.imba.com/epics/womble in Arkansas. Seems like you'll have better luck going farther south.

Hi Jon, Welcome to the site. Mid March is peak spring snow skiing in Colorado. There is not much epic mtn riding here on the front range or Western Slope. The end of April usually starts mtn biking season with the Fruita Fattire events. http://emgcolorado.com/blog/The Moab UT area is also very popular in Spring. What is the TD in Levenworth KS? I googled it and nothing came up. What type of riding are you looking for? Are you riding mtn bikes or road bikes? Again welcome and I hope we can help with finding you a trail worth your effort.

TD = Tour Divide, unless it means something else, which could be the case.
Doesn't sound like they are interested in riding in KS.

Pueblo Colorado
I rode there in March this year and it was scorchin hot - granted this winter was mild, but I would bet Pueblo has pretty good conditions in March. You could call the guys at Great Divide bike shop to see what they think.
Great trail system down there.

Guys,
Thanks the replies so far! In response to some queries and to add clarity:
1. TD does stand for Tour Divide. I mentioned it only as a lot of the riders I met seemed to come from CO.
2. We aren't really to keen to bike in KA as the riding there is similar to what we can get in England. CO offers something different (Sierra etc), but I accept that much of it snowed out at that time of year. We would consider other states that might be less affected by snow.
3. Moab was the first choice, but it is just too far to drive for one weekend.
4. The type of riding we are looking at doing on this trip would be demanding, technical, single track.
THANKS!!!!

Great Choice woodland, demanding, technical, single track that looks like Moab UT in Colorado = Pueblo Reservoir I can't think of a better place in March. Jon I'd do a bit of research on, Lake Pueblo State Park. If Colorado gets a normal amount of snow Pueblo Reservoir should be mostly dry and I promise you it will look nothing like England. http://www.parks.state.co.us/parks/lakepueblo/Pages/LakePuebloStatePark.aspx

You probably already found this site but just in case here's the local mtn bike club that maintains the trails at the Park. They have photos, check the trail riding gallery they got me stoked to ride there and I even found free maps. http://www.lakepueblotrails.org/Photo_Gallery.asp?Mitem=21

if you are down south you could also check out the trails in farmington new mexico; all the durango folks head that way in the early spring if there's too much snow/ mud to ride in durango. bonus; if you stay in durango you could do the durango triathalon; ski, bike, golf all in one day.
