I'm headed out to do the White Rim Trail in a couple weeks. I'm going clockwise and given my one night camp location at Potato Bottom I'd like to start as close to the Shafer switchbacks as possible.

My question: Where can I park close to the Shafer switchbacks overnight? Can I park at the visitor's center there?

A couple of us did it last weekend and left my truck at Horsethief Campground.  It was 15 bucks a night but was nice to have the truck in a SOMEWHAT secure area. Started my trip odometer at the dumpster outside the gate and the total loop was 101 and some change.

There is a long term parking area near the visitor center.  I believe you need to check in at the visitor center and get a pass to park there.  The lot is maybe a quarter mile (or less) from the visitor center if my memory is correct.  It's a short ride to the Shafer turn off.

I don't know what the question is - but the answer is: Lubrication!

I did a backpacking trip there a few years ago, the Visitor Center gave me a parking pass when I checked in for the campsite(s) and you park right there.

When are you doing your trip? I'm planning to do the ride in the last week of April. Can't wait!

Better do the raindance. It's sandy out there.
