I have been using the Geax Saguaros for a few years now on gravel, dirt and paved roads. They roll as good or better than a racing ralph and have more traction, I ride single speed so I'm sensitive to good traction and bad traction on tires.  They wear like iron; mine right now have about 2800 miles on them. No flats, sidewall tears. I run mine tubeless on Stan's Arch rims. I also have been using the AKA on my race bike, they too are good but don't last as long as the Saguaros.

I've been researching tyres to use on my Fargo for just the kind of mixed surfaces the OP mentioned.
The Kenda Kosmik Pro Lite II looks to have a fast rolling centre block, low side knobs for edge grip, are tubeless ready and in 29x2.0" have a reasonable volume.
Also in 2.0" are Stan's Crow and Raven. And tubeless ready.
A little narrower but looking like a fast roller is the 42 mm Soma Cazadero.
Narrower again at 40mm is the Clement X'Plor MSO.
Getting too narrow perhaps, the Challenge Gravel Grinder at 38mm.

Personal favourite of all times was Racing Ralph but they tend not to live very long. I liked it as it was a solid "good" across the board tire. Now trying out a an Maxxis Ardent 2.4 EXO, very stable and fantastic traction on most surfaces but painfully slow on pavement, almost enough to make me cry...

Just ordered a pair of Maxxis Crossmarks 29" x 2.1. Looking forward to giving them a good workout on some trips this summer.  thumbsup

I've had the clement MSO X'plorer on my Fargo for about a year now. Didn't ride much over the winter so figure more like 6 months of actual riding. They're a great all-around choice. Much faster on pavement and most double track. Not great for single track but still fun. I've got a second set just in case they decide to stop making them.

Just curious if you are running tubeless and at what pressures?  On my (lighter) aluminum 29HT I was running a 2.2 nano front and back.  On a new steel El Mar, I have Ardent 2.4 EXO front and back.   All on stan's flow rims, running about 20 up front and 25-28 out back.

The improvement in traction on fire roads and trails w/the 2.4 ardents is quite noticeable.  They are also maybe 20-25% heavier.

The El Mar with the 2.4s seems to roll really well compared to the lighter bike with demonstrated fast rolling nanos.  Maybe a hair slower, but nowhere near the drag I have with Purgatory/Captain Control front-to-back on a full suspension bike for trail use.

For my application, the trade-off is worth it to me - and I am thinking of trying to get 2.4s onto the aluminum bike when it is time to re-tire.  The ride with the big 2.4 in back at 25psi is quite pleasing.

One thing I discovered is that there is now a tubeless-ready 2.4 EXO 29 Ardent in addition to the standard one, which seems to be dual-compound.   I have that one on front, and a standard on rear.  A lot of my rides have paved segments between home and mountains, so I will see how long they last.

I will say that there is absolutely no comparison in terms of comfort and handling between tubed tires and typical pressures and what I've come to run now.

I recently installed the same tires. I'm curious to know what your rider+bike weight is and what pressures you are running front/rear. The only other example I can find online is Guitar Ted's review of the 40mm MSO tires. He said that he weighs 235 pounds and that 40 front & 45 rear worked for him. I'm only 145 pounds & the bike is 26 pounds dry. I am currently riding with 30 front & 35 rear. Curious to know if I'm in the right ballpark with my tire pressure.
Thanks for your help.

ps: Are you running tubes or tubeless??

I'm around 195 with a 30# Fargo before gear. Not sure what pressure I've been running... Harder on the road, softer off. Will check next time I think of it.
