Lake City, CO to Spring Creek Pass

Hey all,

Heading to Lake City in a few weeks to take the CT to Durango with some friends. We're thinking about leaving a car in Lake City and riding up to Spring Creek Pass to start out. Does anyone have a route up to the pass that avoids just riding on 149 the whole way up? Would like to avoid the HWY as much as possible, maybe even catch some trail on the way up.

Any info is much appreciated!

In Lake City, on the South end of town just before the bridge on the east side of the road is an outdoor store.  They actually give rides to hikers, etc to the CT and can help with safe vehicle parking.  At least that is what the lady was telling me last summer when I was there.
