I am looking to string together a multi-day ride from Cimarron to Tierra Amarilla via Taos. Has anyone bikepacked up in this area? Any recommendations for route? Singletrack, forest roads and logging roads are all ok. I just want to minimize the pavement. I have ridden South Boundary Trail from Angel Fire to Taos but wonder what else might be available that I am not aware of.
I started out wondering about a border-to-border ride across northern NM but then realized that most of the excitement happens between Cimarron and Tierra Amarilla. Plus I have a place or two to stay along this route.
Thanks for any info!

Ok, no replies to this one. How about Santa Fe to Taos? or Santa Fe to Angel Fire? Anyone ridden between these places?

The only riding ive done in that area is between Angelfire and Taos. The Elliot Barker Trail and the south boundary trail are great riding.

Thanks - those are great rides, I agree! I have a dream of connecting these farther flung areas though, and making AF to Taos the middle section. I started out wondering about a border-to-border ride across NM and then decided the really interesting areas are between Cimarron and Tierra Amarilla. Thanks for keeping the thread alive. Maybe someone out there has some beta...

I've got 4 days next weekend, either the 11-14 or 12 - 15th. Could always do Cuba to Grants, but I was hoping to do something up higher/cooler, with better access to water. I'm up for suggestions. Hardtail 29r. I'm moderate fitness.

I'm in deep with work and kids for a while at this pint though hoping for one more overnight before winter. Probably in October and likely in the Zuni mountains around mt. Sedgewick. But let's stay in touch as I could be persuaded to do something different. I have contact info for a few other NM bikepackers as well. 29er hardtail and a recreational bikepacker, not a racer. Time permitting, I am up for virtually anything.
