Eastern Divide Project

Hey gang,

Just wondering if there is any news on the progress of the Eastern Divide Project? As in, how close is it to being finished?

The official Website just has a quick blurb about what they are doing and their Facebook page has updates of them route finding but I'm not really sure what to make of it. Really looking forward to see what they've come up with.

I'm not associated with whomever started that website...doesn't look like the website is active (I don't use Facebook, maybe that is where the action is).  It is a lot of work to map a long route and takes a lot of time and riding.

Right on -- Yeah I know that a decent amount of the rideable parts of the Eastern Divide have been mapped out by folks over the years. Logan at bikepacking.com was able to get his hands on the VMBT route and made a gpx available to the world (thank youuu). There are a couple of other tracks along the Eastern Divide on that site as well and in other parts of the web.

I guess my curiosity was piqued when I read this http://bikepacker.com/the-eastern-divide-project/ in 2015... And then I saw Kurt Refsnider founded a non-profit called Bikepacking Roots and their Website mentioned it in their projects under development at http://www.bikepackingroots.org/in-development.html ... But there doesn't seem to be any real info as to the status of it anywhere other than that it is under development and should be done soon.

Anyway there's plenty out there to ride as it stands now out here on the east sieeede... Was just hoping someone from the project would maybe be able to chime in!

I've been trying to map out trails and routes here in SE Tennessee. Unless you get people to ride and send you GPX files of their rides, it is a daunting task.

I know a guy working on a bit he calls the XMAT, which runs north/south across Massachusetts. He is hoping to connect it up with the XVT to the north, and tie in to the whole Eastern Divide project, but neither group are that communicative or open about their work.

No but really -- That's great news! Sounds like they will be updating the Eastern Divide Project site in September and posting routes in the Fall at some point. Rock onnnnn

I wonder how a north/south route across Massachusetts relates to the Eastern Divide. Whatever Divide branch you choose north of Pennsylvania, it doesn't touch MA by a wide margin. The low height of the Eastern Divide and the population density around it are such that there should be an abundance of tracks that wiggle the Divide line from side to side by a tiny bit.
