Flagstaff to Sedona

Is this something that can be done on trail?
How are conditions for it?

Check out the Coco 250 route that's the only way I know of it's not all trail but it makes for a great ride. Pretty sure I saw Fisher Point on the list of things that are dry over at MTBR. I don't think you get into the sticky soils until after Marshall Lake, you do up on Anderson Mesa and all of the way to Morman Lake, you could always bail out to the road if need be.

I'm starting the Coco 250 in 6 days, so you'll get some first hand mud feedback a few days later.
My only worry is the dirt roads being too muddy. The trails have rocks to ride over.

Thanks for the reply - I am headed to Flag on the 22nd and was looking for a overnighter loop and thought the coco rout to Sedona and back might be an option.  Thoughts for any other routes in the area?

Did you check out the Casner Dirty Century ride? Drop down to Casner, ride through Sedona and back up to Flagstaff. About 110 miles. I need to finalize the GPX file, but there is a version up on the Google Group.

Too muddy? You will be fine until you get to Bill Williams.

Mormon Mtn AZT has deep snow on it per Randy Mason's report this weekend.  Easy to detour around it though.  Probably only miss 6 or 7 miles of trail.  I think the stuff on Anderson Mesa should be OK.  Dirt roads near Mormon might be muddy as well, hard to say though.

Light to moderate raining in Flagstaff today (april 21 2010).  3-4" of snow has fallen at 9500'.

The steep, rocky doubletrack squeezes through the Sycamore Wilderness (show on the left side of this picture) and the Red Rock Wilderness (right side).



~25 miles into the ride, the first sings of red rock appeared






As usual, pictures never really do justice for how steep the ride is. All 13 riders chugged along, some staying a bit longer to take some pictures.

Just for the record :  in 2013 I rode from Williams to Sedona through the Coconino Forest and over Casner Mountain to Sedona. The Casner Mnt trail is the only allowed corridor west of Sedona between the Red Rock Mountain Wilderness and the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness. The ride from Williams to the summit of Casner Mtn is very scenic and not too difficult. I found the descent from Casner Mnt to the Sycamore Canyon Rd much too steep and rough for riding with a loaded bike (average gradient 15%). I hiked most of it.
