I am new to bikepacking and myself and a few friends are planning a trip to Matagorda Island in south Texas.  I was wondering if anyone has been to this island before or has any specific planning advice.  Thanks in advance!

have you done this trip? I now live in the Houston area and have been invited to do a Matagorda islandish overnighter. to go out to the Matagorda light house. waiting for the date to be set. I also heard the rattle snakes were bad.

I wasn't able to make it because a tropical storm blew in that weekend.  I wasn't pumped about a weekend in the wind and rain.  I am now waiting for hunting season to be over because the island is closed for private hunts.

If you make it out to the island before I do, please send some information about the trip my way.

Will do. Have you done any overnight trips across Sam Houston national forest?
