Hey all,

First post here. I'm thinking about doing a full SF Bay loop using the bay trail system and camping on the sly. I ride little sections of it often and I'm struck by the stark contrast between the busy urban surrounds and the largely deserted trail system. My plan is to start riding sections with the intention of finding nice, safe campsites spaced a day's ride apart.

Thoughts?

Do it!  By being discrete and leaving no trace you should avoid getting busted.  I've camped atop a bunch of local hills and it makes for a great easy overnight bikepack and then ride into work.  No reason you can't string a bunch together.   Also look for campgrounds which offer bike camping for riders touring.  It is cheap ($5) and some of them have showers which may make life more pleasant.

Hi Mattpetty.

I've ridden most of the sections along the peninsula and this is totally possible and reasonable.

Let me know if you're interested in coming along for some of this on May 6-7-8
