I'm looking at riding the Mojave road in January or maybe February from Barstow all the way to Laughlin

Looks like two long days of slogging through the desert with little water and plenty of sand.

Anybody want to come along?
Anybody have experience with this route?

Eszter has been looking at this, too.  Are you planning to take a fat bike?  Seems like it might be the only way, though I'm not totally convinced.

Don't know of anyone that's tried to bikepack it.

I never heard back from johnpierce.  I was thinking of the better part of a whole week to explore on a fatbike.  I'm looking for a trip sometime between new years and spring.

Might be nice to let it get a little warmer into later winter, but I suppose it's probably doable just about any time in the winter.

Would love to see/hear more if anyone knows of a trip report or someone that's ridden it.  There's a book with turn-by-turn direction for 4x4 trips on it.

I'm interested in heading out there, but not sure if it'll make sense this winter or not.  Please post up your experience if you do head out there!

Ty Hathaway rode it on his Pug Ops and wrote story about it  http://theradavist.com/2014/04/mojave-road-guide-ty-hathaway/#1

Looks like an interesting ride and close to home to me.

Cool, thanks for that.  Photos don't make it look super sandy, but he definitely left a lot of details out, so the mystery is still there!

that dude rode it on a LHT with 2.1" tires.... hmmm.  He cached a lot of water too. I guess he was out for a week.

seems like perfect fatbike ride to me.

We did this last March with SAG, 2 fat bikes and hardtail. Fat bikes were worth it probably 20% of the trip, due to dunes section before dry lake. We went west to east to catch prevailing wind. Unsupported you will definitely need some water drops at north/south paved hwy crossings. If it was raced, could be done in under 24 hrs I believe
