I am dreaming BIG....(and crazy)
The Colorado trails takes you to Durango....from there the Southern Kokopelli trail takes you to Moab...The Northern Kokopelli to Grand Junction....Ummmm...Not sure...(HELP!).....Tabeguache to Grand Mesa to some Dirt/ pavement back to Colorado Trail near Leadville ....back to Denver...
I figure that I could do the Colorado Trail a serious but leisurely pace in 2 weeks followed by Kokopelli Durango--Moab--Grand Junction in 2 weeks...Grand Junction to Denver in another 2 weeks....(I am allowing for play time in Durango & Moab & Fruita etc.)...for a total of 6 weeks
With long lasting snow in the high country passes versus scorching temps in Moab.....
QUESTION #1... When would be the best time of year to do the full Loop?
QUESTION #2 .... Because of the high country snows in the passes or late fall snow storms dictate a summertime attempt...should I skip the Moab miles and do the South Kokopelli out of Durango but shortcut near the Utah border and catch the North Kokopelli back to higher and cooler territory heading towards Grand Junction?
QUESTION #3 ....Any Hot Springs on the Loop to soak my tired muscles?
QUESTION #4.... Any route suggestions after Grand Mesa that would avoid backtracking on the Colorado Trail?
QUESTION #5.... Anyone want to join me?

Tim, Sounds like a great adventure. Leaving in mid August would get you to Moab when temps are decent but you could get some snow up high on the way back. Leaving earlier in the summer I'd skip Moab due to the heat. Princeton hot springs on the CT outside of Buena Vista comes to mind. Enjoy Tony

Tim,
I haven't heard of the South Kokopelli. Do you have more detail on that route?
I am aware of the San Juan hut to hut route between Durango and Moab. Much of it is road based, but I think it can set you up for 'The Whole Enchilada' or other fun singletrack descents into Moab.
Fruita and Moab would be tough to recommend for a trip when high country riding is good. Mid September to mid October maybe.
Different routes could take you back through Telluride, Uncompaghre Plateau (above Montrose and Delta), Crested Butte toward the eastern part of the CT.
Have fun planning your trip!

From the GJ area you could come back over Grand Mesa- some singletrack but mostly road. Then get to Crested Butte via Kebler Pass or Schofield Pass, then connect back to CT at Monarch Pass. Or, Grand Mesa -> Carbondale -> Cottonwood Pass/Red Table -> Eagle/Vail area -> CT. Not sure how it would all work but I bet you could work something out. I've always been curious to find a good Carbondale to Moab route over the Grand Mesa...

What a coincidence - I was thinking on the same route for next year. But in addition I wanna do stops to ride sweet singletracks along the route (unloaded). Let us know if you actually did this trip and if so, how it went.

It is still an "Exteme Dream" probably not this year maybe next.
I talk it up as a very cool Colorado month long "Ski area to Ski area" stage race that would be awesome fun plus a financial boost if 100 racers plus their supporting families were having to stay/eat/ party in each host town

Sounds nice. If to start such route this year, better start it now. Otherwise it would be unpassable on highere altitudes. I'm not ready to take off of work at the moment. But will deffinatelly do it next year
