I am planning a trip from GA to AL possibly for spring break. Tentative plans are: I want to ride up to Mulberry Gap (those guys are awesome), then have them shuttle me up to the northern terminus. I'll ride down through P1-5 and have them shuttle me back to MG for the night. Then the next day leave out of MG down 3, 4, and Rock Creek ATV park before continuing on to AL. I'm doing the backtrack because P5 and Rock Creek parallel each other and I want to do both of them while I'm up there. I think the track will be similar to the Snake Creek Time Trials, but will start farther north. I know I want to hit Mountaintown creek trail before Bear Creek.
Anyone have knowledge of this route?

I've hiked the Pinhoti this past spring and it was just fantastic. Your trip sounds like a fun one. Please update us when you're back.

I will be doing this route in the 2nd week of March. I will park at Mulberry Gap (awesome place, check them out) and have them drop me off at the start of the Pinhoti at Benton MacKaye trail. I will then ride Mountaintown Creek, Bear Creek, and Pinhoti 1-5. Then a pickup back to MG where I'll stay the night (to show them a little patronage for giving me the shuttle). The next day will be Pinhoti 3-4 and Rock Creek ATV Park before continuing on the rest of the route. I'll be stopping wherever needed to refuel and will camp on the trail somewhere between MG and Aalabamaland. Then MG will pick me up and take me back to the truck.
If anyone wants to join me, let me know. Plenty of time to plan.

Awesome!!! We just got back (three guys) last week from a week long journey from the northern terminus to the AL state line...I'm hooked and really enjoyed the route. It was my first time touring with a bike, and I'm not sure I'll wanna do any regular hiking again...Give us a heads up and maybe we can join ya for a day or two, so much good riding out there!!! I used a variety of topo maps from parkaymaps but the route has changed on several of the road sections at which times we'd follow the blazes. The last trailhead Jackson Chapel trailhead and its sign were hidden amongst a myriad of POSTED signs with the Pinhoti trail sign about 80 yards off the dirtroad. The white paint blazes similar to the Appalachian Trail are also blue for thru this section (presumably to avoid confusing hunters--whitetail deer). You can travel light on food. Somerville is actually 7.3 miles off trail from highpoint trailhead not six like the books suggest...There is a greasy spoon diner inside the truck stop at holland gas station (5miles from Rome). $5.99 a plate. Ryan's steakhouse in Dalton, we camped in empty lot nearby and the Dalton PD woke us up twice, they left us alone, but were incredulous of our story. Bear Creek bikes is also in Dalton en route...really cool shop-next to a Walgreen's-Jersey Mike's nearby...where we met the Prez of the Pinhoti Assoc. Mr. Mooney hello! Cave Springs water at Rolater park is awesome--take extra for your final day. i didn't see any again till we got to cedartown (10 miles from the Jackson chapel trailhead) where we rode the S.comet home... happy trails...
