I came across an article in our little paper about starting talk of a trail/dirt roads from Cortez to Montrose:

It just opened up last year and it's pretty remote. You could even include the Kokopelli in there as well to add some more miles. Loma to Montrose is about 70 miles away on roads, but with some planning could probably get back to Montrose on secondary and dirt roads to make a big loop.
