sign13 Has anyone else had the idea to follow this historic road?

During the Revolution, a road was attempted from Newbury, VT with the intention of connecting it to Quebec. Its purpose was to bring men and materiel from Quebec to the Colonies via the Connecticut River. Its my understanding that the road exists, but that its exact alignment is a bit uncertain. The road was worked on through 2 separate attempts but was not completed north of Hazen's Notch.

My thought is that this could be a really interesting bikepacking tour. It would follow a significant amount of established dirt roads, with some paved roads, though probably not much asphalten mileage. I do know that the road follows many existing dirt roads in places, and have heard that in some places it disappears into the forests and hedgerows of the North East Kingdom. It helps that one of the most acclaimed breweries in the country right now is within a very short detour of the original route (Hill Farmstead). I have ridden through the NEK on a touring bike and will vouch firsthand for its beauty.

I hope that this bedtime story of wandering lost paths will inspire others to share what they know, or to share what they learn in the future.

Sounds like a neat combination of bikepacking, route finding and history. I like it.
