Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone out there knows of a backcounty route from North Vancouver To Whistler BC? Logging roads, single track, goat trails?

Safe Riding and thanks.

Hey Gnome,

I've often thought of this but there are two major limitations.....
No access to the Capilano Watershed (although people have poached the 'back door to Squamish')  and the fact that bikes are only allowed on a a limited number of Garibaldi Provincial Parks trails.

People have ridden up Indian River FSR into Squamish. There's a water taxi that can take you from North Van up to Indian Arm but for me the cost of the boat ride was too expensive for it's worth when I called about it last year. One group rented kayaks in north van and paddled up Indian Arm while their friends rode down Indian River FSR from Squamish and then traded bikes for boats and headed back to their friends cars.

From Squamish you can always ride the Cheakamus Challenge race route to Whistler. It's not adventurous or remote by any means but will get you to Whistler on mostly dirt, some road sections. I've done that one as a weekend overnighter a couple times.

If you find any info or need a partner for a ride let me know.

Adam.

I think Addy covered it.  My husband and I tried the Indian Arm last year as an out and back from Squamish. The bridges have been taken out and there are some challenging crossings.  We turned around at one of the washed out crossings before making it to Indian Arm, but if you had the time and desire there should be plenty of logging refuse to create a makeshift bridge.  The Sea to Sky Trail--esentially the Cheakmus Challange-- is a good ride all the way to Whistler once you are in Squamish.  I heard that there was some work done on the trail near the top of Paradise Valley.  The ride up Highway 99 from North Van to Squamish really isn't bad....

The other ride we considered but didn't get to this year is to ride Whistler to Pemberton on the highway and where possible the Soo Trail.  Once in Pemberton take the FSR to the Skookumchuck hot springs.  The FSR then connects into the backside of Harrison Hot Springs.  Once at Harrison, you could ride Higway 7 back into town.

Have fun!

As above, NV to whistler is somewhat limited as far as I know. Would love to figure something out could be really cool. Did you ever think of the sun shine coast? Ferry to Langdale, from there pretty much endless. I'v been exploring a bit (still pretty green tho) and the trails are so good and tons of logging roads. Did a ride this summer from home (I live in NV) to half moon bay and back, most of it on trails was really fun. Will explore a lot more next year for sure.

edit:half moon bay not porpoise bay oops!
