I'm planning the GDMBR southbound, starting around end of June/early July, hoping the snow will have melted on the northern passes. I expect to be riding at roughly the pace of the book, though I won't follow the days as set out by the book because I don't like to follow someone else's plan. So that means about 70 riding days and 12 rest days.

At my pace, I'll have to camp a lot. I'll probably be inclined to motel it when I'm in a town, at least some of the time. As with all the tours I do, I'll always be on the hunt for delicious food, though with bikepacking that's going to be more of a challenge than it is on road tours. Still, I'm up to the challenge.

Want to join me? It'll be beautiful and fun.

I'm planning on the divide 2015 but late June / early July start date. Looking to average 60-80 miles/day. No specific end date; just go and do it. Don't have any buddies yet. Is anyone planning depart around this time? I'm hoping to be on trail with at least seeing others if not specifically riding with others. Either way is good, just would like the mental ease of knowing others are around -  especially through bear territory.

As you see, I'll be departing the same time. But 60-80 miles per day is a zippy pace, far too fast for me. The slowest Tour Divide riders (=racers) are doing that kind of mileage. Maybe we'll see each other at the start.

I'm looking at doing a southbound trip, probably July. No real idea on pace, but I'd say 60-80 sounds about what I'd be looking to do.

cool. I haven't really finalized any plans yet as for start date, etc. From the journals I've been reading I can't decide if I'm up to the Grand Depart or if I'll just take off at a later date. I'm def not doing a race pace by any stretch of the imagination but don't want to take all summer.

Right on. I definitely won't be ready for the Grande Departe. Current plan is to ride from Alaska and start when I get to Banff, probably sometime in July. Keep me posted of plans, mine are very preliminary, so maybe we can make something work

I'm game for a July or early August departure. I'm only planning on 5 to 7 days of touring just to get an idea of what it is like and I'd certainly prefer to ride with others for my first exposure to the TD route.

Hi
I posted on http://www.adventurecycling.org/adventure-cyclist/companions-wanted/ to find a partner
my only constraint is to start in Banff in middle of July... and I will take more or less 2 month!
So I think it is relaxing ...
best regards Sylvio

One thing to keep in mind is that the full moons in July fall roughly on the 1st and the 31st. If camping out in bear country, it'd be nice to have some light rather than the darkness of a new moon.

I'm interested. I'm not sure what pace I can do, but definitely would want a partner for this. I've done 24-hour solos, RAGBRAI, and a bike tour around Lake Titicaca.  I can start (leave Boulder, CO) July 3. Can either get to you up north or meet up in Colorado. Or if anyone wants to bike around Iceland instead, definitely let me know! I have until mid-August.

I hope to head out after the snow has melted, thinking 70 to 100 a day, mostly camping. Would like to start with at least one other.

Hello,

I plan on riding from Whitefish to Helena. I will be leaving Helena on July 5th. It would be fantastic to connect with some others for the journey. I have touring and backpacking experience, but this will be my first off road cycling tour.

I will have a place to stay in Whitefish on the 3rd and 4th of July and any Tour riders are more than welcome to avail themselves of the amenities.

Looking forward to meeting some other keen riders.

What is this book everyone keeps talking about? While I'm nowhere close to having the the free time to do this ride yet, I'd love to read up, if only to enjoy the ride vicariously.

I'm also looking at a late june/ early july start. Need to be on a flight home from NM by August 8th. Won't be starting in banff as I rode the Canadian section last summer. If anyone is interested in meeting up in Eureka MT or Whitefish/etc. Let me know! I'm a 31 year old runner/hiker/cyclist/medical student looking to enjoy the divide route with some good people. No competition. Just fun riding a good times. PM me or email me (link in profile) if anyone's interested in meeting up! Good to know other folks will be out. Hope to see you all out there
