I'd like to cycle this route in my own time (https://iberica-traversa.com/), but like far too many other events the organisers are more interested in making $$$ (I emailed for the route and was told "no, it's not available") than sharing the love of cycling.

I think the guys who do the Tour Aotearoa have the right idea.  You get the route for free, but you can also buy the guide books which are full of loads of extra information.   This means people can choose to race the event, or cycle the route when time permits.

It's a shame it's got like this, as I remember back in the day, routes were always shared and charging for them was just something that didn't happen.

Just imagine if everyone started charging for the routes they create.  Would be a very sad day.

If anyone has this route or know where it might be available online, can you post a link  thumbsup

It seems as though perhaps you have an uninformed view of how much time, money, and effort it takes to create a route.

And how much more effort beyond that that it takes to create maps, guidebooks, etc...

Not really.  I'll spend a few weeks mapping the route out and then release it for free when I am done.
