Bike packing from New York to Asheville

Hi there!
My name is Chris and I'm from Switzerland. I plan to move to the US next year. I got the somewhat crazy idea to move by bike.
The plan would be to cycle through Europe, cross the channel over to GB and get on a ship from Southhampton to New York.
Is there by any chance a route to bikepack from NYC all the way down to Asheville? Thanks for any links and ideas!

Are you looking to ride paved roads, gravel roads, trails?

The map section of my website appalachianbiketrails.org has a number of trails plotted from Virginia headed down toward Asheville. I also have the Virginia Mountain bike Trail shown on there as well.

I would prefer gravel roads and trails, but I guess I need to use at least some paved roads... I think from Virigina to Asheville I should be fine, now I need to find a good route north...

As developed as that entire area section is, I doubt if you'll find much in the way of gravel roads. There might be some rails to trails routes up that way that might be of use though. I'll post if I come across anything.

You might post on mtbr.com or even bikes.com to get some locals assistance.
