I will be on the Divide in August -September leaving Banff on July 13th. I am doing this as a tour and plan to do 50 miles a day. I have heard from some other riders who are getting on the route at various times during July and August. Given the varying speeds, break downs and other issues, it is likely that some of us might cross paths. I am planning on doing some type of group so we can all connect by email or text as we move south in case of emergencies or just to share a meal. If you have any interest, send me you email address and I will let you know as things progress. Bo Glenn boglenn@nc.rr.com

I'm thinking about starting in mid-August. I'll be doing it as a tour and not a race. Did you finalize your start date?

Frank, I am still hoping for earlier in August...soooo many things have to fall into perfect place and right now it does not look as if that will happen...thanks for your reply...if I did do it I would not be racing but certainly doing over a 100 a day...good luck and have fun...

I'm starting July 25th. Aiming at about 80mi a day. It'd be pretty nice if Bo Glenn's mail group gets some momentum.

I am working on an early august leave myself.. 80 miles a day would be a lot for me but I think I can do it.

I'm going to follow along on this thread if that's alright. I have been fascinated, infatuated almost with the TD ever since I first heard about it. I'd like to know what I'm up against before ever attempting a full TD race so I'm wanting to do a touring pace from the start in Banff (July or August 2015) and see what it is like. At my current fitness level, I can easily handle 50 to 60 miles a day. But I am ramping up my training regimen so that I break out of this upcoming winter in the best shape that I've ever been.
If, after touring for a week, I see that I can handle the physical, I'll shoot for the full route in 2016. If I am not at the physical level that I need to be or it is not for me, then I either up the training a notch or just be satisfied that I at least checked it out.

that's a good idea...see how the miles feel before committing to such a serious endeavor...I backed out of my attempt with less-than-ideal physical ailments...what I have learned from those who have successfully accomplished the ride is ride a lot with your full kit and make sure that kit has what you will need for crappy weather...although that may fly in the face of light is right with your gear...something that astonished me was the expenditure of cash simply to get ready for the ride...expect to spend a couple thousand bucks getting the right gear (beyond the bike), then you will need a couple more thousand on the ride for food and hotels...and more than anything have fun!

Old post, but I am thinking about this. mid July allowing up to 42 days. That averages 66 miles / day. Will potentially allow a few spare days for not riding. I want to enjoy it and have the flexibility to kick back and chill if I need too. Are people still hoping to set off around July time?
Thanks

I was reading the 'Cycling the divide' book on the train this morning, and thought that although the book allows 70 days for the trip, it actually lends itself well to being done in 35 days. That way you can take advantage of the suggested overnight stops

I'm planning on south bound mid August 2015. I only have 10 days (ride time) to get as far as I can. Then will have to come back next year and finish it up. New baby and family obligations are limiting my time away. Anyone interested??? Hoping for just shy of Rawlings or steamboat in 10 days. Can help with getting to and from airports.

Hi SDR, do you have a date in mind. I have just been told I am being canned at work and am just trying to work out my leaving date. Now I have no reason not to go and do this ride. I may have to push my date back to 2nd/3rd week in July though.

I don't have a date in mind. Many loose ends to tie up before I disappear for two months on a bike ride. First of the month is the goal but circumstances may dictate otherwise.
