I'll be starting near Ketchum mid/late next week if all goes well. Going CCW. Looking for the skinny on must see places. How're the singletracks. Favorite hot springs and camping spots. Best mosquito spray?

Any gotchas to be aware of ?

Thanks,
mike

PS I'll be solo, so if someone's looking for company, let me know.

Ride the White Clouds singletracks.

Part of the area was just declared Wilderness, but we can keep riding til they put the signs up.  Besides it being a must see this will be your last ever chance to bike a few of the trails.

Warm Springs Tr (#671) through Ants Basin and Castle Divide Tr (#047) are the two main trails that will be off limits.  Chamberlain Creek (#110) is also in the Wilderness.  You could add Castle Divide to the singletrack option route by continuing past Bowery Station or taking Germania Creek east, then up the road, climb Big Boulder, then Castle Divide to Chamberlain Basin, then pick up the route to 4th of July trailhead.

Not so sure about this.  In the link below, it says wilderness restrictions went into effect immediately after the President signed it, and willful violations of wilderness law will be cited.

We have a trip planned in 3 weeks for the IHSMBR, and I really wish we could ride it.  Not advocating to break the law, but if you really can still ride it, do it.  Maybe you'll just get "educated."

By letter of the law it may be off limits.  But I am also hearing things like the USFS has to prepare a Wilderness management plan, that it will take them a few weeks to a month or more to put up signs, or even that the closure will not be enforced until next spring.  Until I hear stories of riders being cited, turned back at trailheads, or am turned back myself, I plan to be riding these trails next week.  Wish me luck!

Heck yeah, evdog.  I know you'll do good on the pictures, too!  Wink

I think we're gonna try to ride it, too, but we have to wait a little longer than you to get up there.

Have a great time!

A poster on mtbr says USFS is already starting to put up wilderness boundary signs.

That, and with heavy smoke in the area I might end up diverting elsewhere. We'll see.....
