I've become fascinated by the concept of Bikepacking, and am wanting to develop a story on the movement for publication at the national magazine level.  I'm interested in networking with Bikepackers in the central Arizona area in spring 2012 for photography and research on the topic.  I'm am a professional photojournalist with over 20 years experience.

Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in collaborating, or to voice any support or objections here.  Thanks!

You may want to follow the Arizona Trail Race in April, then:

Thanks, though I may be out of the area by then.  I'd be interested in talking / photographing anyone else active in the interim.

Scott, Max, Lee and I will be doing some bikepacking if you want to join in this year. The Gila River Scramble is a good one: https://www.google.com/search?q=gila+river+scramble&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

If you're here until spring, I'd highly recommend setting your sights on the AZT near the Gila River (as Chad suggested above).  Wildflowers, green grass and orange/red/white rock sculpture to die for.  You can be a second rate hack with a $200 point and shoot camera (raises hand) and still get some amazing images:

Or just recently, no flowers, but awesome canyons and rocks!

Drop me a note, smorris@topofusion.com, I'd be happy to talk about your idea/article.
