Hi guys,
I plan on riding the divide this summer and looking for partner(s).
I'm 23, with a 3 week 1100 km bikepacking experience, good navigation and wilderness experience and have been mountain biking for the last 10 years.
I plan on arriving to canada somewhere between this coming June or July with no mountain biking equipment and plan on arranging the ride for 3 weeks- month.
Nevertheless I'm quite flexible and can also start as late as august. I need to finish the trail until thrbegining of October.

This is my trip plan for this summer! Will the divide route meet up close to mine at all? It' be fun to cruise together for a few days. Anyone settled on a start date yet?
I'll be on a cross-country road bike ride through the 11th of August, and am planning on starting the GDMBR about ten days later. (Going from border to border, and skipping the start in Banff.)

Don't skip the Canadian section! I thought it was one of the highlights. Though logistics can be tough.

I'd like to include Canada's contribution, but I'm concerned with getting through some of the potentially tough weather spots, if I'm not getting started until August 21st. Most everyone posting here, appears to be taking off in July.

I think your southbound Divide ride from Banff can start up till end of August. The graph is obviously schematic and varies from year to year, but sums up the time windows that I gathered from reading many GD blogs.

Based on the chart, I should be in a pretty decent time frame for the ride. (Canada or not.) Cool. Thank you.
Do you have one for bears? (I'm guessing, instead of a graph, you'd demonstrate seasonal bear activity on a huckleberry pie chart.)

Watch http://forums.adventurecycling.org/index.php?topic=11764.0 whether the route from Banff is open. You'll probably have to bypass some of the Canadian trails. |
