Thinking about doing the Sarn Helen Trail at the end of August / early Sept and wondered whether anyone maybe interested.

I am thinking that 6 days / 5 nights should be doable?

Hi,

I have been looking at that for a couple of years (I am sure I still have the maps / guide somewhere...) but my bikepacking friends are either injured or busy and solo riding sucks for big trips.

I have done some bikepacking in the last few years including the length of Wales for my stag do and lots of S24HON type stuff.

As long as you are not looking to set records drop me a line - <myusername> @ gmail DOT com

I have mapped the route out and can be seen here

I was not planning on doing anymore than 50 miles/day and 60 at a real push. I want to enjoy it rather than it turning into a race

Be wary of following the 'official' Sarn Helen route, as the trails exist on the map, but not on the ground. Also the route you've posted up is missing out the majority of mid Wales, which would be a shame.

I have a copy of the route which Ian divised, which has the same start/end points and will be alot more enjoyable. I did it last summer in 5 days

Thanks for the post, but this route is based on the one done by Tim Woodcock (Mountain Bike Routes UK) so it's not the actual Sarn Helen Trail.

Are you saying that the route is no good?

Do you have a link to the route you did so that I can compare?

Chew - I am planning to do Conwy to Swansea and not to Worms Head.  Which is about 200 miles.  Planning on 4 days riding and want to ask whether 50 miles / day is doable.  I don't want the ride to be a sufferfest.

I am also yet to find someone who wants to do the ride with me so will most likely be doing it alone.  Do you think that is advisable?

Thanks
