Certainly I am not the only one who has considered pedaling around the Mayan Empire next December.

The first thing That comes to mind is road conditions.
Soft sand?
Hard pack?
2.55, 2.1, 1.75?

Please note, replacement tires for a 29er come in the mail down there.

All hotels anywhere near a Mayan ruin have been booked solid for over a year.

If anyone is familiar with the road conditions and terrain... ..

Chad
The Mayan long count calendar comes to an end on 12 21 12.  Nearly all of their books and writings were destroyed by missionaries,(new world order).  The 4 remaining books were at last translated.  The Mayan calendar is more accurate than the modern calendar we hang on our walls.  Modern quantum computers Can perform mathematical computations to understand the orbits of Earth, Moon, Venus, etc.  No person with pencil and paper ever came close to the understanding and mathematical computations of the Maya, (read more brilliant than all others.)

I have a destination in Mexico and a date to be there.  I am looking for help in planning a route to get there on my bike.  Oaxaca is certainly on the way.  Puebla might be I don't know yet.

According to legend*  ?,ooo years ago, long before Christopher Columbus, A blue eyed bearded traveler came from the sea, landing in southern Mexico.  He had knowledge of math and astronomy.  Like the Druids and Pharaohs.  He was said to have a misshaped, cone head.  He taught the locals how to perform computations, measure the rotation of the earth around the sun. They knew that Venus and mars orbited the sun along with the earth.  They knew how to predict the moons orbit around the earth.  The brilliant blue eyed traveler was elevated to God status before he returned to the sea.

later a Mayan, Recorded in history with a misshaped head.  A person with exceptional intelligence. Perfected the mathematical skills and perfected the most complex calendar the world has ever known.  The European kings had nothing to equal it. (Later came the atomic clock.)

Then Came Columbus.  (was the new world discovered by pirates on the run.)  Then came Cortez.  Cortez timed his arrival with the year the blue eyed bearded god was supposed to return from the sea.  Cortez lied for money.  And a brilliant liar he was.  He killed millions of people with sword and disease.  Cortez did not pay his army.  He payed tribute to the king of Spain and the Pope, (taxes,) and lived out his life as one of the worlds richest men.

The combined knowledge of an advanced civilization was all but erased from history.  The priests burned their books.
