I might be heading to Ogden, UT for USA Cycling's fat bike national championships in mid-February to attend some co-located meetings.  If I go I'll "race" but I'm considering a short bikepacking trip afterward to make the travel more worthwhile.

Are there good routes nearby for that time of year?  I don't have a good feel for how much snow there can be and how rideable routes might then be in mid February. I'm interested in anything from a 24hr to 2 night trip. Looking around a bit this afternoon I gather there's good riding in the Uintas/Wasatch forest, and I'd maybe consider driving farther.

Other than having been to Salt Lake once for a summer conference I'm not familiar at all with the area, so I appreciate any pointers and advice.

Thanks!

There's a surprising lack of bikepacking happening in the Wasatch -- despite lots of able bodies.  The Great Western Trail is a backbone route, but few people ride it as it can be quite demanding even without gear.

I don't know much about winter routes -- though snowmobiles do punch in some trails that you might be able to link up.

One pretty obvious choice would be to head down to the Moab area and ride Kokopelli or White Rim.  Both of those would fit the bill and have better weather.

I live in Utah along the Wasatch front in Sandy, SLC area. I jumped on the Fat Bike thing this year after having a PUGS 3 years ago. I may have a route worked out but it's too early to know.
My idea is to ride the snowmobile groomed trails which are fairly plentiful. I don't know what the conditions are like as I tried to get a ride in today and even with the Winter Storm watch none of the trails have been groomed until at least 12 inches of snow per the ranger and this meant not access by snowmobiles. When they are groomed and I get to ride them I will have a better idea of the possibilities.
