You're at the Amtrak station in San Diego with your bikepacking bike, ready to roll. Where do you go for 2-3 days adventure?

I finished the 2013 TD. I did the whole damn thing,
excluding the 2013 detours, in good style and—as
far as I know—totally in accordance with the rules.

An easy route would be to download the Stagecoach 400 route. You could easily follow it out to Julian and then skip down to the desert or south toward Descanso and pick up the route again back to SD. It would be mostly known route with available navigation resource that you can ride right from town.

Thanks to both of you. That looks like a plan. The simplest way to do this I can see is to head south on 79 toward Julian instead of north to Warner Springs, then get off on Sunrise Hwy and rejoin the trail right there. Looks like just under 15 miles and 1900' up on pavement.
I assume the highway is the only way through, but if there's a better way, please let me know.
