Coconino Loop RaceThe first inaugural date is October 9th, 2009 at 7:00am in Flagstaff, downtown at a coffee place. We drink, chat a bit and then we ride! After riding the Grand Loop and all its glory, Scott and I talked about the idea of making a loop here in Arizona that hits up all the scenic views and best singletrack. I started putting tracks together with the help of great minds like Dave C., Billy/Mike from Prescott, Troy M/Nathan F from Flagstaff... and then Scott and I finalized it in order to tour it last week. The loop goes through Flagstaff, Sedona, Mingus, Williams before returning to Flagstaff near the Kachina Peaks. The 250-mile route has about 40-50% singletrack, some of which is pretty darn technical, and about 33k of climbing. The 350-mile option will be similar to the 250-mile, only it will be looped to the south rim of the Grand Canyon via forest roads then the Arizona Trail. Those that have never ridden in this area, you are in for a treat! The official site: http://rockyroad5050.wordpress.com/5-coconino-250-and-350/Comments, suggestions, heckling can all be made below. I have the GPX file nailed down, but just need a few more tweaks before it is made available. As this is the first year, I am still working out on the details. You can drool over some pictures on Scott's website: http://www.topofusion.com/diary/2009/06/29/coco-ming-o-bob/ We just finished touring the loop, but more trail has since been added.

That looks so cool. Looks like you developed something I was had been thinking about. Thanks for making this happen. I think I will sign up for the 350 in 2010. Stuff already in the works for me this year...

Ahhhhhhh si! Very nice.
Glad you are taking the initiative on this one. I think it's destined to become a classic to look forward to every year.

The aspens on the peaks and Bill Williams Mt should be changing this time of year, adding to the scenery. I will be doing the 350 on a borrowed Green Milk Money

Looks like a great course, perfect timing I was hopping to get out and do some riding after the Tour of the White Mountains.
I should think the 250 would fill the bill nicely.

Nope, fires only help the cause. Imagine adding flames and smoke to endurance racing. This will only increase participation!
As of now, the route is still south of this area. Thanks for the link Brink. I will keep my eye on it.

Any CO people going down? This is far more exciting that 24 hours of money I mean Moab. Not sure about "racing" yet per say but it looks purty and I'm liking that!

I'm definitely in for this one, no matter how much Chad fights the CocoMingo name (maybe we need a poll?). We should have SPOT units and tracking on trackleaders.com, too.
Can't wait, really. Wish it were cool enough to do this one right now.
Oh, and no shuttle logistics! Yeah! Singletrack, AZT, big views, Sedona, maybe a brand new 'racing' format too.... getting stoked just thinking about it all.
