BTW -- I posted updated cues and GPX waypoint files for the route. Wanted to get a few clarifications/additions down (like the Mustang station!) while they were still fresh in my mind.
Would love to see some people tour or ITT this route (both thru or stage formats can be ITT'd!!).

Scott and Chad have done it again. They have created another epic multi-day course by linking together some of the best single track in central Arizona. Clearly, the course was well thought out, researched and the multiple reconnaissance trips that Scott and Chad had made really made for an exceptional ride. The route traverses several of Arizona’s hallmark scenic areas, landmarks and trails, with ample places for food supply and water source. There are even places along the route for a night in a motel, if desired. I was really looking forward to this ride. Work has really been stressing me out, lately. Four days of suffering in the saddle, out in the wild, would be the perfect remedy for the work dull-drums. The ride was by no means a walk in the park and it certainly had its share of “Chad-isms” (if you have ridden in any of Chad’s races you know what I mean, that is, he never takes the easy route). As far as the weather goes, it was perfect and I could not have wished for better conditions. And of course, regrouping at the end of the stages and hanging out with everyone was a blast. I think that Sycamore Canyon was my favorite stretch of the route. And bombing down Shultz Creek Trail was about as good a Grand Finale as one could scheme up. This route is destine to become a classic.           |

Scott, I guess what I meant to say is that I will buy the food if you bring the beer/chocolate milk. Rob, nice pictures. Seems like you managed to score some of the best shots of the ride. "Chadisms"---now, if we can only add Airport Mesa (going up) to the CLR 250! |

Thru-ride. Time to beat is 3 days and 3 hours (set by me, while in stage mode). I don't think he'll have any trouble going under 48 hours. How much under? We'll just have to wait and see!
He's underway, looks like a 7am start from Flag this morning.

I was curious about this also. We should know how what he is riding when he starts to climb Mingus. It would be pretty hard for a SSer to make good time on that section. Looks like he is probably just crossing I-17 right now. I am curious to see what he says about the route. Scott, what do you think he is going to say after he is done? A. That was fun. B. A lot of rocky singletrack. C. Most technical, rocky endurance race I have ever done. |

Carney --Pretty sure he's on a gearie -- Leviathan.
Chad -- I think both A and B. If he rides hard enough, maybe C too.
He is near the end of Stage 1 of the stage race. Looks like he'll come in around 6 hours for that, which is pretty smoking fast for thru-riding. Would have been good for 2nd or 3rd in the stage race.
It's going to get real interesting as the sun sets, though. Will he make it out of the red rocks of Sedona and onto the shandies of Lime Kiln before dark? I would think it's a tough one to follow at night, but we'll see.

D'oh! I think he missed the turn for Hot Loop, blasting too far down Schnebly Hill Road. Ouch, that bonus climbing has gotta hurt.
He's still making great time, but probably a little frustrated right now.
