That's good because I was going to say, he's been in the black hole between Buena Vista and Silverton and wondering how his supplies would be holding up. He left Buena Vista about 10:30 Monday night, so we're at about 2 1/2 days since then, and if he continued in the eastward direction, you'd have to start worrying about supplies, perhaps.

Way to go Owen!  What an amazing ride!  Hope to see some pictures and/or a trip report, you know, after a bit of a rest!  icon_biggrin

Stefan hasn't been complaining about his hands at all. When I asked him about it, he mentioned some tingling in his pinkies and ring fingers, which is *nothing* compared to what he has dealt with in the past.

He predicted that Doug would take off without him, as he was looking strong, still very much in "race mode." He mentioned that Jefe seemed tired, and wasn't sure what the day would bring him.

Congrats to Owen!!!!! What a machine!

Owen,
I am so excited for you! Cannot believe you finished quicker than last year. You finished before I could even get to you by car. Cannot wait to see you soon.
Way to go to all the other riders. Strong efforts out there each day.

Awesome finish for Owen. What an unbelievable ride.

I'm really curious about Shelman's detour...and his decision to not go the extra ~2 miles to rejoin the course where he left it(at least that's what the spot seems to indicate). There must be quite a story there!

Great ride by Owen!

Looks like Jason, after getting back on the right track, just went back and tagged the spot where he initially turned back...  Too bad, because he had a great ride going.  Get some food in Silverton and make the final push!  We're rooting for you!

This is where SPOT data gives an incomplete picture sometimes but he does have a few close points to analyze. His "farthest back" point from this morning seems to be a couple miles from his turn around point of last night. His next point after that this morning is 12 minutes later, further down the trail in the right direction. Going back to his original point and back the right way again in 12 minutes seems unlikely. However if you look at his furthest point from last night and then the next point heading the wrong way, it's over an hour and half of time passed. He could have gone further than we have SPOT points for before turning around, we just don't know. Ultimately it is Jason's word to whether he went back far enough to complete the full course. I think he's an honest guy so we won't know for sure until he can look at the SPOT data after the race is over and rectify that with what's in his head.

I really feel for him, that detour had to be brutal mentally. Hopefully he can rally in Silverton and knock out the last section in good time.

Awesome ride, Owen!

Calls:
Dave Nice calls in to pull out of the race. He’s hurt his achiles. Doug Johnson calls in from Silverton with Stefan and Jefe. And Max Morris calls in from near Silver Creek. Marshal Bird and David Goldberg are with him. He’s thinks he went off-course in BV but is pushing on!

Absolutely.....I hope that the Spot points don't tell the whole story. It would be a shame to have only missed a short section of the trail after that huge detour.

Pulling for him....hoping he can get it all back together and rally it out in good form!

Wow!!  Wow!!  Wow!!  Owen's performance was unbelievable.  It looks like Stefan has really come in to his own and is pushing hard.  Big Props to Brian Taylor who in his first CTR is solidly in the Top 10.

Yeah, hope he's fine. I'd be curious how many extra miles -- and elevation feet change -- he's done. At least he's coming into Silverton now.

Also got to give props to Marshall. I love watching him race and I know he's eager to avenge his accident caused DNF of last year some 40 miles from the finish.

Is he our oldest racer at 53? No matter what, he's ROCKIN this year!
