Sounds like fun, can't wait to see this new detour.

Scott how about sending me a copy of that file?

wow scott I'm impressed, I just looked over the detour and not only did you find a route that is more exciting than dirt road but also one with an equal amount of climbing and less resupply than the original.

I aim to please.

Didn't think about the lack of resupply on it.  I am not surprised on amount of climbing though.  The lower control road is just a long series of rollers.  Had the official 300 route skipped Oracle Ridge it would have definitely increased the total climbing.

I have a business proposition for you: open a snack bar on the gasline between reddington rd. and the control rd. I can guarantee at least one customer this weekend :-D

Jonesy is on the move.  Looks like he got rolling at 6:30a from Parker Canyon Lake, this morning.

He should be rolling into Canelo West right about now.  Go Jonesy!

Scott,

Will this be the new route for this year? After we cross Camino Doretea we'll continue on the new track outlined in red up to Reddington Rd.

Go Jonesy! We're rooting for ya!

No, sorry, the red route is what the hikers use -- it goes through wilderness.

The cyan line now shows up on Jonesy's page.  It is pretty close to the 300 route.

I just put up the first revision of the 2010 300 route:

http://www.topofusion.com/azt/race-route.php

Cues too.  Oracle Ridge is still there, and I haven't added any additional singletrack on Lemmon.  It does have all the other changes, though.  Differences from 2009 are shown in RED on the cue sheets.

Looks like Jonesy is getting into the last hike-a-bikes on Canelo West.  Will he stop in Patagonia for a slice of pizza at the Velvet Elvis?!  Time will tell.

Also, if you go to the GPX directory:

http://www.topofusion.com/azt/gpx

The GPX for the Jonesy snow alternate is there.  I know Tim asked for it.

Jonesy is off to a good start.  Not too fast, not too slow.  Brief stop in Patagonia, then back out on the trail.  Should be interesting to see how much night riding he does.

He's off to a great start I am getting ready to head out too I should be on the trail in Rincon Valley before he gets there.

His snow bypass looks pretty good.

Jonesy is descending Cody Trail right now, with just enough daylight to make it to Oracle.  Might be time for a night at the a-frame motels to recharge for the final push?  He's on good pace to finish under 4 days, if he is up for an early start and the final long haul.

Nice work so far!

I chatted with Jonesy yesterday. He stayed at the Chateau in Oracle and had planned to wake up at 4am to leave. He does plan on making the final push and is just before the gasline near Antelope Peak.

Well done thus far!

It's shaping up to be a classic 300 finish for Jonesy... unlikely he'll be able to wrap it up at a reasonable hour.  You know he's going to enjoy the push up Orphan Boy.

Keep rollin' Jonesy.

I think he's getting tired, slowing just a bit.

Climbing Orphan Boy at 11pm, continuing onto some midnight picketpost madness?!  That's friggin' livin'.

One thing about his 4am start is that he had to ride back and do all the Oracle State Park stuff first... that cost him an hour or so.

Your best bet might be to find someone with a PC and use the free version TF.  Or bribe me into preparing the necessary simplified/split track that you could then upload using Mapsource (Garmin has a Mac version of that).

Congrats to David Jones, the first AZT 300 finisher of the year.  Time = 3days, 19hours and 10min.

As discussed earlier in this thread, he detoured around the Catalinas due to heavy snow, but rode more miles, similar amount of climbing and with less services.

Great effort.  I am stoked to see another early season ITT of the route (Chad Brown did the same last year).
