I pulled out last night at the observatory. A very humbling experience indeed.

Saw these riders roll through at about 8:06 AM. You'll have to help me with names as I don't know everyone yet. But they were sticking together and looking good. This was on Cape Horn Dr. in Tucson, just after the turn off of Wentworth. They asked if I had seen anyone else, but I hadn't because I was only at this spot 15 min before they came through. They said the other guy was an hour ahead of them.
I left a sign on a pole for the other riders rolling through later on.

Scott Morris on the right and possibly a clean shaven Jefe on the left?

A clean-shaven Jefe indeed! I'm glad to see that they've ended up with one anothers' company. They're about to get back onto some good dirt trails and leave behind the trigger-happy gun nuts along Reddington Rd.

Hi. This is Deanna. Thought I would just drop a quick line. I got hit a month and half ago by a car while riding my bicycle, and I thought I would be okay for this trip. Well....I think I need to wait longer. I think I will wait a couple more months, and try again. I was iffy for this trip to began with, but the appeal of starting with other brave souls is hard to pass up.
Highlight of the day was riding down very technical sections that I thought I would biff, but didn't. With one brake. Spotted a lot of cows, and it was nice to talk to them instead of my self.
Good luck to all the others.

Just got back from resupplying the water cache at antelope peak, there is plenty for everyone now. There is still a lot of snow on mt. lemmon (down to ~7000 ft.), I'm curious to see how they will deal with that going down oracle ridge.
Scott and Jefe are crushing dreams out there, my mind is shorting out trying to figure out how they can push that pace.
Randy and Deanna, great effort better luck next time.

I rode over to the Bellota section of the AZT and ran into Todd around noon, who was the guy out front. He was just starting the climb up to the Molino saddle. I mentioned his SPOT wasn't showing where he was, but it appears that he got it turned back on as it now shows him on the climb up the road. He said he was tired (understandably) but looked good and was still pressing on. Sun was out and the weather was nice, so hopefully the warmer weather helps the riders out there.
Everyone is doing great!

I'm back home. Oracle Ridge and my recently sprained ankle did not seem like a good mix. I was feeling it just coming over/down Molino. Was psyched to ride as much as I did, and got to ride quite a bit with both Todd Tanner and Jefe.
Unfortunately Todd is also out. He was at McDonald's / Radio shack with me. Multiple electronics failures -- both lights and most importantly his GPS (he left his cue sheets in his hotel). I offered him mine since I was dropping, but he didn't want an 'asterisk' and his light issues were also hard to deal with. Too bad - he was riding very strong and seemed rock solid.
So now it's up to Jefe. He is riding very well, consistent as usual. I think he stands a good chance at bustin' the record. We'll see how far he makes it tonight...

Man, bummer to hear that both you and Todd are out! I was excited to see the three of you pushing right near the record pace, but now it's up to Jefe to set a new best time. My bet is he'll do it if he can get over Oracle Ridge at a reasonable hour tonight!

Bummer about the lights and injuries. You all did some great riding out there though!
Looks like there's a big group at Colossal cave and another group just ahead heading towards Old Spanish Trail.

A few pics from my camera...
Taylor and Dave See, I think. I never thought the AZT 300 would start with fresh snow covering everything!
Salero Road conditions
Uh oh! Time to carry the bike while you still can! Bull Springs was ripped up by a bulldozer, leaving thick and sticky mud. Eventually it became unrideable, then unpushable!
Evening light on Elephant Head and Chino Canyon. Todd Tanner in photo.
Sunset from Elephant Head singletrack.
Jefe smiling at X9 road.
Another motivational note, this one just before Milagrosa.
Jefe pushing up and over Molino. Go Jefe, go!

He flew up the mountain! Looks like he made it through most of the traverse 'o death with some remaining twilight. Glad I am not there slowing him down...
