2011 AZTR and 300 Shuttle planning thread

I am also trying to figure out these issues. I hope that my wife can get the day off to haul myself and Rhino down there from the west end of Phoenix. The ideal situation would be to stay the night in Tucson and catch a mass shuttle to the start in the am ( that way my wife wont burn a V day). Anybody know of a shuttle service? Sounds like there are quite a few folks that could make use of one if there were. It would totally be worth a minimal cost 

For now... looks like i may have 1 seat left from PHX. Not sure of a departure date / time set yet.

Also... if you would like to wait around at the finnish (300) for a couple days ........ I may have room back to PHX.

Right there is a shuttle service with a Tucson based tour company. But his small bus is pretty slow. I am blanking on the name but it might be worth investigating.

Sounds like Jimfab has a couple of extra days planned.

Some will likely finish in less then 3 days others may be thinking 6 so it might help to have some idea of who's all on the same pace plan.

Sounds like a reasonable plan. Under 4 days would have won it in 07 lately not so much. But that is still a reasonable time for most IMO.

Looking at past results and seeing people in the 5, 6, and 7 day range I should think 4 days is all good.

Especially when I see that in 08 when we had one of the original ultra racers show up, Mike Curiak - 4:00:30 of course that was a touring pace for him but none the less.

I believe that a lot of the thru hikers do 20 miles a day for a 40 trip of the whole 800 miles. I have heard of speed hikers doing 30 a day. So there ya go leave the bike at home and hike 30 a day for 10 days.

Looks like there are lots of hotels and seems to be the most convenient to both the 300 and 750 start locations.

I'll be along for the 300.  I have tickets that put me in Tuscon at 12:30 on the 14th.  I'd be interested in rides to/from Tuscon from the start/finish.  Camping on Thursday night would not be a problem at all by me.  I'll be looking to get back to Tuscon my Tuesday AM. 

My cardboard sign reads:  Will buy Burritos & Gas for logistics.

In for the 300. Leaving Picketpost Thu afternoon and getting a ride to PCL and spending Thu night there. Might have room for one or two more if yer Thu is flexible.

Hey guys I am throwing my services out there to shuttle riders to the start on the 15th which I believe is the start of the race. I have room for 4 riders plus their stuff. I may also be able to set up a scheduled one time pick up of riders in Superior and bring them back to Tucson.

Vern, thanks for the offer. What sounds better for you picking them up at Picket Post before then they have cars there. Or picking up after people can leave cars at my place as I have plenty of parking.

I also have plenty of room around here for people to camp out the night before.

Tim thats a good idea I could do an afternoon pick-up on the 13th or 14th of riders who want to leave there cars at Picket Post. We'll see what everyone prefers. I already have one spot to the start claimed from Jmeiser so three still left.

My friend Mike (racing the 300) and I (the 750) plan on getting to Tucson about 7pm on Thursday the 14th. Since the AZT starts so early, we'll probably drive down to the start the night before and camp. We have space for one more person and gear (it'll be tight, but doable).
What we need some help with is getting the van back to Tucson and a place to keep it till he finishes the 300. Anyone want to come to the start and drive it back? Mike will hitch/poach a ride back to Tucson after the 300, hang out a few days and then find me when I'm done.

Thanks to everyone who is putting time and energy to make this happen! It's super awesome to see so much altruism.

Anybody willing to host a rider on their floor or in their yard?  I'm looking for a place to call command center on Thursday afternoon/evening when I get in to Tuscon.  I arrive sometime around noon and will need to assemble bike and make a trip to a grocery for supplies.  I'll get myself to the address via a shuttle from the airport, it seems there are a few reasonable.  Bigworm/Vernie has offered a vehicle spot to the start on Friday morning.

Additionally, I'm looking for a shuttle back to the Tuscon area and camping/lodging.  The goal would be pickup Monday sometime, back in Tuscon for a Tuesday flight. 

Being more self reliant means rolling out a heap of cash for transport/hotels/etc... It seems logistics are the most difficult part of these types of events.  I am grateful for the folks that help support the riders.  I'm also willing to pay my way in fuel, burritos, etc...

Hey all,

Does anyone else need a ride to Parker Lake?  I am debating about skipping the drive down/back since I am not racing.  I *am* trying to head to Prescott after the AZT starts, meaning if I do Parker it'll be ~7 hours in the car for me.  Ugh.

I will probably bribe Tim or Vern into handing SPOTs out for me, unless there is someone that isn't squared away on a ride to the start.  I might head down to the start if I can score a ride on someone's car too (with or without bike).  I don't want to drive just me down, seems like a waste.
